No.3 Section after 'square bashing'.

In 1959 the Police used the Army Barracks at Trentham for training courses, and in fact the Army provided the drill instructors for marching and P.E.    It was not till years later that they built their own training centre at Porirua.    Trentham could be very cold during the winter and we even had icicles on the windows in September.

During the stay at Trentham the Dobbs Wing trainees added to the Police numbers for the occasion of the opening of the new Rongotai Airport in Wellington.

One of the things taught during our training was typing which has proved to be a great benefit for all sorts of things since then, not the least of course being computing and the typing up of things such at "It's the story of my life" and other pottering on my computer.

Section 3 - Dobbs Recruit Wing at Trentham - 1959

No.3 Section after 'square bashing'.
The discipline of all recruits being able to march in a co-ordinated fashion without putting the left arm forward at the same time as the left foot! Mind you, those of us who had already done C.M.T. (Compulsory Military Training) had no problem getting back into the swing of things.
