HYPERTEXT LINKS

As I mentioned to you previously, any text you see in blue with underlining is probably 'hypertext'.      You will confirm this by placing your mouse pointer over the text and the pointer should change to a hand !!!

Generally a link to an Internet site (web page) will be prefixed with http:// and more than likely have http://www. followed by the actual address of the site.      (Note that the previous blue one won't go anywhere as it doesn't have an address with it).      See my links at the bottom of this e-mail. Clicking on one of those will automatically bring up your 'Web Browser' (Internet Explorer), wait for you to insert your password, then take you to that site.

If the link is an e-mail address it will look like this alan@webs4u.co.nz and clicking (once) on it will automatically bring up your mail window already addressed to that person or organisation.    Note that your pointer image changes to a small hand when it is over the hypertext.

Link Colours:   By convention a hypertext link us usually blue until visited and then it turns to purple, once again by convention.    However, all web page designers have their own ideas and some will chose to use other colours.    Obviously a blue link on a blue background would be pretty useless - you wouldn't see it.    MOST times the link is blue, and MOST times it is underlined - there are exceptions but you'll soon get the hang of it.

Real cunning this Internet/e-mail stuff eh?      A lot to learn, but hey, hopefully there's still lot's of time to fiddle with computers yet.

Cheers again, Alan
