Getting started with the Internet - page 5.

This is the desktop icon for Internet Explorer. IE icon pix Double-clicking the left mouse button on this icon on your desktop should bring up the Internet Explorer screen - see picture below.  Note that the icons on the taskbar Number (6) on the picture, only require a single click.

In this case Google Search Engine has been set as the home page - that's the page you might want to visit most often - so you can make that site automatically appear when you first access the Internet.   If you click the button marked 'Home' which is Number (2) on the picture below your browser takes you to the page in our example.

Number (3) in our example is the 'Address Bar' where you can type in any URL (Universal Resource Locator) you like.   Type in the address, like www.some-site.co.nz and press [Enter] to go there.

Number (1) is the area on the 'Google' screen where you can type your search query.   You could just type "FORD" which would get 28 million results, far too many to sort through.   See below the various combinations and results I got from a quick test.

"BLUE FORD MUSTANG"

The little rectangular image below Number (4) is the icon you can click to access the desktop without closing any of the windows you may have open.   Clicking again returns you to where you were previously.
Note that your pointer changes to a wee pointing hand like this hand.gif when over any active link whether a button or a text link.   The underlined text at Number (5) is called hypertext and this is actually a link to another page or site.   If the hand does not appear then it is possible the text is simply underlined rather than a link.
